In his introduction the Author, who was previously unknown to me, says that this book is pure entertainment, escapism and so it is. The hero is is more of a gentleman towards the ladies than James Bond but otherwise cut from the same cloth with a mastery of weapons and combat and a lot of charm; even dogs like him. It all feels like Florida must have been when citrus farming was more important than tourism and there were no Cubans. There is an unpleasant if not entirely credible villain and some good twists and turns and moments of tension. It does what it says on the tin and none the worse for that.
