The Count of Monte Cristo
Revenge, murder, hidden treasure, and epic adventure! Dumas' masterpiece The Count of Monte Cristo details the wrongful imprisonment of the young sailor Edmond Dantes, a character whose transformation and ultimate revenge has been the archetype for myriad Dark Heroes. Readers may require a diagram to keep track of all the characters - but then again, it is French.

This book leaves me speachless, and words cannot describe my opinion, it is so high. Wonderful, excellent, riveting, and overall spell-binding. There are no other words to describe it.

One of my favorite books - I have read it at least twenty times and every time I read it I find it is as new and interesting as when I first read it as a teenager. Edmond Dantes is my hero for all time

This has to be one of my favorite books. I've read it over and over and I am still astounded by Dumas' writing style and development throughout. Even the more stagnant parts of the book are filled with vuluptuous language that holds so much sophistication in the simplest progression of the storyline. 5 stars, every time.

This bok is a t5ue work of art and literature, with a fascinating plot and wonderfully detailed characters. I heartily recommend it to the world. Unfortunatly, there is a problem with the editing. The proofreading was not thorough enough. There are wrds and phrases missing from this work. Usually missing at the ends 0f pages but also at other places on the pages as well. Not enough is missing to make the work hard to follow but enough to certainly be annoying. I appreciate the work being free but these omissions should be corrected.

My favourite adventure novel, my favourite novel! I once read that this book was origionally released chapter at a time in a magazine so that explains why each chapter leaves you unable to wait for the next. The very definition of a page turner.

Best book I've ever read...and I was a literature major at Berkeley! Nothing can match this for its brilliant plot, moving humanism and sheer magic. Please only read the unabridged Penguin edition, the previous translation was more than 100 years ago and is not only antiquated but deleted material considered too racy or violent. Although this has a reputation of being a book for children, it is decidedly not so, as there is plenty of violence, drug use and a very suggestive lesbian relationship.

My all-time favorite book. Whatever you do, read the unabridged version. (I read the Penguin edition.) It's worth the time. (It's about 1200 plus pages!) I liked this even better than "The Three Muscateers". I read this for my book club about three years ago and many members had read the abridged version and couldn't understand certain relationships of characters in the book! Entire events were left out of the abridged version. Do yourself a favor and run to the nearest library or book stored to get this book.l

This is my favorite book of all time! We can all learn something from Edmund Dantes from 1845 human nature is still the same and Dumas knew it! That is why this book is still in print today. This os my favorite version i believe it is unabridged because there are scenes that were not in my paper version and it is portable!

Excellent story that is long and engaging. Must warn though. A couple of the the narrators are inarticulate do to heavy accent and manner of delivery. I had to download and read the chapters that they narrated so I could follow the flow of the story. Kind of defeats the purpose of the audio version.
