Slow and dull beginning, after chapter 7 I could not stop listening, beautifully written and the reader did great job.

Karen's narration was excellent. However, the book itself was very disappointing. Despite a good premise and a few well crafted passages, the novel was little more than okay creative writing. Lady Blakeney described as the cleverest and most beautiful woman etc etc in Europe, behaved more like a shallow, selfish, romantic idiot. Percy Blakeney's much lauded skills were simply told to us directly rather than being illustrated- much of the 'action' is given to us this way. Chauvelin and his men would make the Keystone cops look like an ace swot team. The central story is simply too full of holes to suspend the readers disbelief. The characters have no depth and the love story insincere. As pantomime it could get a pass grade with good music and dance. As literature it's historically interesting but ultimately fit only for the guillotine.

Karen Savage is one of the finest audiobook narrators to whom I've ever listened. For her to lend her prodigious talents to a volunteer project speaks to her fine character. Now on to the Scarlet Pimpernel-unlike the films, the novel is told mostly from Lady Blakeney's point of view. It's not the swashbuckling adventure I expected it to be. However, I loved it. There's intrigue, you'll still hate Chauvelin, and finally, you'll wait breathlessly for Lord and Lady Blakeney to rekindle their grand passion. Wonderful novel and glorious narration!

Hearing the story told by Savage is a joy that makes four stars to this juvenile old adventure and love romance. Savage is unique in the interpretation with crystal clear English, full of tones, emotions and a French accent when needed. I recomend this listening for anyone that loves theater.

Excellent!! Savage once again absorbs the listener through her perfect interpretation. Wonderful story, reader, absolute joy! Should all books be this entertaining, what need of TV. Sequel "El Dorado", also read by Savage, is a must listen too as well!!

One of my favorite stories with a wonderful reader who has a beautiful accent to complement the book. This book is the classic foundation for every regency era romance novel written today. Glad to have it on audio since my paperback copy is falling apart!!!
