WW I was a turning point in warfare. This author mostly maintains the romantic view of war ... Its interesting to read this and to then meditate on Hemingway. The author doesnt seem very empathetic toward the wounded .. Possibly because so many of the nasty cases died without antibiotics, plasma, etc. Interesting book for a young adult class to read before attempting classic first person WWI novels.

An excellent first-hand account of an American who volunteers to be an ambulance driver for the French army in early WWI. Very read-able for having been published during WWI. There's not a lot of general history about the war, but lot's of personal experiences. Generally well worth reading for everyone interested in WWI.
