this is a history of thr native tribes, Boers, and English settlers in South Africa in the late 19th century. it was written because of the then current question as to what course the British government should pursue with regard to he Zulus , more specifically, whether Cetywayo should be reinstated as king. Haggard had great knowledge of the area, having lived there many years. He is predjudiced against the Boers, but the book is valuable for its wealth of information about native African tribes.
