I am sure that this book made a deep impression on most persons that read it, and ithat it did much to help the black race to get the respect they desire.

Enjoyed the book on several levels. Historically, and morally for sure. Apart from that each episode drew me in to caring about the characters.

Only read the first three chapters and wanted to stop as it was too distressing to read what my foreparents have undergone. Sadly the stains of this era are still evident today. I will read on....

At times i found myself chuckling and at times i cried, but i was always engrossed. I don't often rate a book 5 stars, but i wholeheartedly do this one. Unforgettable.

This book gave me an education that I wish I had pursued many years ago. A deeper understanding of our American past and a compassion for our present America!

This has to be one of the most important pieces of literature ever written. I simply love this book and the vivid account it provides of one the darkest times in American history. It is moving and I would recommend this book to anyone.
