Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is the most famous of Jane Austen’s novels, and its opening is one of the most famous lines in English literature – “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Its manuscript was first written between 1796 and 1797, and was initially called First Impressions, but was never published under that title. Following revisions it was published on 28 January 1813 by the same Mr. Egerton of the Military Library, Whitehall, who had brought out Sense and Sensibility. Like both its predecessor and Northanger Abbey, it was written at Steventon Rectory. (Summary from Wikipedia)

This has recently become one of my dearest favourite books, and this narration is wonderful! Also, for those who are a fan of this book, I recommend The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube - it is a witty modernisation of this book.

I was bored out of my mind but I had to finish the book. This book is well suited for 13 to maybe 21 year old girls. There is no intrigue in the story and it left me wondering about the few hours of my life that I will never get back. The narrator is decent, although not nearly as great an Mike Smith or the narrator of "the Uncle Tom!s cabin.

Karen Savage has a lovely melodic voice and gives different "voices" to the characters which helps to bring them to life. Really enjoyed it!

One of my favourite Jane Austen novels read so wonderfully well by Karen Savage. If she hasn't done so already, she should make a career of reading all of our quintessentially English literature! I look forward to listening to more novels read by her.

Austen is a classic, her witticisms cannot be denied as genius. Her biting criticisms portend and reflect truths in today's society. And Savage's voice is simply brilliant in suiting this novel!

As always Austin can do no wrong, and the reader helped with her inflections & intonations all the little snide & downright cruel comments.

I love the inflection in the voice of Karen Savage when changing between characters' dialect. The story was more rich by having it read to me.
