This has been my favorite book to re-read for a long time. It will make a great movie (better than the old Fred Astaire one). The sequel, Dear Enemy, is pretty good too. Jean Webster is a distant relative of Mark Twain.

Just wonderful. The heroine is everything you want from a sassy fictional friend-- hard to imagine she was conceived a 100 years ago.

Could not stop reading this delightful romance and now can not stop thinking about it. Interesting characters and great writing without sentimentality. Just sorry it took me so long to learn of Jean Webster.

I decided to read this book because it bore the same name as a musical I love, and lo and behold, it is the same story. Better, of course, as all books that are turned into movies are, but I recommend both highly. Great story, very sweet and hopeful and full of relatable emotions.
