An excellent classic detective story. Not only that but this is -as are all the Dr Thorndyke mysteries- a forensics case at a time when that science was in its infancy.

A wonderfull read. Just fast enough to keep you interested, and at the same time trying to figure out the clues yourself. Excellent !

It is presumptions of a mere amateur of detective fiction to review a work by one of the acknowledged masters but this story deserves praise. It is a typical Dr Thorndyke mystery and the writer plays fair for all the clues are there to allow you to uncover the solution as Dr Thorndyke does. I enjoyed the homage to Dr Watson whose courting of Mary Morstan is a precursor of Berkeley's courting of Ruth. The Temple, where Thorndyke has his Chambers is still there but the Author whose plot and characterisation are strong misses the atmosphere of the Temple and Edwardian London but this is a minor matter. A good detective story in the classic mould deserves to be read.

I found this very interesting. Not much to do with Egypt, as I hoped, but a good mystery.

Starts slow but winds up as a really good read.
