Pretty good early mystery. Murder, wrongful conviction, fraud. Not the best but a pleasant read.

The first part of the book, concerned with the crime itself, is novel enough to hold the reader's attention whereas the second half, which focuses on the solving of the crime, the reader's interest tends to flag through seemingly pointless meanderings.

This is a good old-fashioned detective story full of twists and turns and interest. There is no real hero but Mr Jellipot the solicitor is probably the key character though he appears infrequently and it is only towards the end that his importance emerges. The murderer is not hard to identify but it is a relaxing and almost comforting story. I'd like to read more about Mr Jellipot.
