The White Company
Set during the Hundred Years’ War with France, The White Company tells the story of a young Saxon man who is learning what it is to be a knight. Raised by Cistercian Monks and rejected by a violent elder brother, Alleyn Edricson takes service with one of the foremost knights in the country. When Alleyn falls in love with the knight’s daughter, he must prove himself to be a courageous and honourable knight before he can win her hand. Alleyn and his friends set forth with the other men-at-arms to join Prince Edward in Bordeaux, from where they will take part in the Prince’s campaign into Spain. It is in Spain that Alleyn and others must prove themselves to be very valiant and hardy cavaliers.

A fine tale of chivalry. Excellent reader.

The excellent story is enhanced greatly by the outstanding reader. I listened to Doyle's novel while reading Bernard Cornwell's new novel 1356 about the same time in the Hundred Years War. They were so outstanding I got lost between them often, but loved them both.

A lot of adventure but too much detail. Then again, it is Doyle so I wouldn't expect anything else. I know it is a classic, but I thought the story was too long. The reader kept me listening though. Great job.

Exceptionally well read and an elaborately told tale of adventure. If you like "the knights of old" this will be sure to please. Doyle is a story telling master and one of my all time favorite authors.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is unmatched by current day adventure writers in setting up a story following through with human interest as well as adventure. A great book. My thanks to the reader.
