A good yarn, but unlike The Woman in White, one I could only manage in small doses. Two young men, unknown to each other, inherit the same name and unfortunate family history. They meet, become friends and soon fall under the shadow of their shared past. Plots within plots keep one entertained and guessing until the end. There are interesting, even revolutionary ideas given the period, being treated as commonplace. Much of the story is presented as the diary of a female -great testimony to Collins grasp of the female psyche. On balance an excellent read!
