The Agamemnon of Aeschylus
by Aeschylus
Agamemnon is the first of the three linked tragedies which make up The Oresteia trilogy by the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus, followed by “The Libation Bearers” and “The Eumenides”. The trilogy as a whole. The play opens as a watchman joyously recognizes the signal indicating that Troy has fallen, and that Agamemnon will therefore soon be headed home. The Chorus of old men briefly recounts the story of the Trojan War in all its fateful relations.
